Games-time volunteer applicant pool exceeds one million

The Beijing Olympic and Paralympic volunteer applicant pool has surpassed one million, reports the volunteer department of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG). And the city volunteer program applicant pool has already reached 1.2 million.The department said that as the Games draw closer, recruitment has won wide support from the public. The recruitment program was launched on August 28, 2006, for Beijing residents. On January 19 and March 28 in 2007, recruitment for volunteers from outside Beijing (on the Chinese mainland) and people from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan began.

So far, the applicant volume has surpassed the maximum number of volunteer applicants from past Olympic Games.

Volunteer recruitment for Beijing 2008 began in June 2005. The recruitment program includes the recruitment of Games-time volunteers, city volunteers and other volunteers engaging in routine services.
