Beijing Olympic supervisors outline work for 2008
The Supervision Committee of the Games of the 29th Olympiad held its 17th full session on Monday to outline its tasks for 2008.The meeting reviewed the instructions of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and recent speeches of BOCOG president Liu Qi on the Olympic preparations; heard an explanation on the supplement of the position of the committee’s first vice chairman; debriefed a report on the completion of the Olympic venues and their operation plans in 2008; and approved the key tasks for 2008 and related inspection arrangements.
The meeting urged the supervision departments of various levels to uphold the principles of frugality and cleanliness throughout the Olympics as well as conduct efficient supervision over key points of the Olympic preparations. The supervisors are urged to be strict in carrying out their duties, improve and observe strict disciplines and regulations, and earnestly hold the wrong doers responsible.
In 2008, the supervisors will inspect and examine the Olympic venues to see if they are ready for the Olympics, with a focus on personnel assignments and equipment tests to find and solve any hidden problems before the Olympics. The supervisors will also sign letters of responsibility with venue directors and competition managers over the Games-time functions and operations of the permanent and temporary facilities, sports equipments and technical systems.
Secondly, the supervisors will oversee the observation of Games-time disciplines and request that explicit work regulations and disciplinary requirements be formulated to focus on key work points and key posts.
Thirdly, the supervisors will strengthen work with venue staff and volunteers and instruct them to consciously foster new manners for the image of the capital city.
