‘Supergirl’ Volunteer
Meet Li Na, a second year graduate student from Beijing Language and Culture University. This jolly, good-humored “Good Luck Beijing” volunteer has earned the nickname “Supergirl” due to her unending efforts and infectious spirit in helping the capital city gear up for the Games.A Sleepless Night
“Supergirl,” as her Iranian athlete friends like to call her, admits that she has established good relationships with her foreign friends. However, she recalls a time when things were less smooth.
In August of 2007, team members from the Iranian wrestling team arrived in Beijing to take part in the “Good Luck Beijing” competitions. Their dismay overcame their excitement when they discovered that 9 of their teammates had not received their registration cards, which meant that they were not able to enter the competition venues to warm-up, not to mention compete.

A memorable farewell
Facing this urgent matter, Li took steps towards resolving the problem. Even though she had no relationship whatsoever to the department in charge of the registration cards, Li promised to help the Iranian team as much as she could, rushing from her station at BLCU to the hotel where the athletes were staying. For three frantic hours between 10 PM and 1 AM, Li made phone call after phone call, talking to countless numbers of people from all different departments to figure out where the problem lied regarding the registration cards. The athletes, with smiles on their faces, watched her cut through the red tape. In the end, Li helped them undergo the entire application process again, and did not rest until all the forms were in the proper hands and the athletes were assured of receiving those important pieces of identification.
