Sino-US consortium picked as ticketing agency for 2008 Olympics
A Sino-US consortium of ticketing agencies has been selected on Friday as the ticketing services exclusive supplier for the 2008 Olympic Games.
The Beijing Gehua Ticketmaker Ticketing Co. Ltd., established by the Gehua Cultural Development Group, the China Sports Industry Group and American ticketing giants Ticketamker, will be in charge of ticket sales for the 2008 Olympics and Paralympics, the Beijing Organizing Committee (BOCOG) said.
“People shall be able to buy tickets via the internet, telephone or at the booths set up outside the Olympic venues after tickets go on sale next year,” said Rong Jun, a BOCOG ticketing official.
Rong said that over 7 million tickets will be on offer to the general public, with approximately 30 per cent for overseas need.
In a bid to prevent selling black market tickets, BOCOG is considering setting a limit on the number of tickets each individual is allowed to purchase, Rong added.
“We have yet to decide on how many tickets each individual is allowed to buy,” he said.
Taking into consideration the local residents’ consuming power, BOCOG has promised that the majority of the tickets for the 2008 Games will be low-priced.
“We hope that all Chinese have a chance to watch the Games,” BOCOG president Liu Qi told reporters in August.
